Harris fires 1-hitter, 16 strikeouts to spark Angels

Auburn Little League Major Division baseball for ages 11-12 had probably its most exciting games to date last week.
The Placer Sierra Bank Angels got a one-hitter with 16 strikeouts from pitcher Max Harris as they blanked the Anchor Roofing White Sox 3-0. Harris helped his cause by going 2-for-3 with a solo home run. Jake Lopez went 2-for-3 with an RBI double, and Jon Slane and Jesse Danielewicz also had hits.
For the Sox, Wes Kyle dueled well with Harris throughout, allowing only seven hits as his team trailed just 1-0 until the Angels’ two-run fifth. Tim Bendana singled for the Sox’ only hit.
The White Sox also lost 6-1 to the Tanko Well Drilling Braves, who also beat the Auburn Journal Indians 8-5.
In other games:
Cubs 7, Giants 6: Jesse Gatt had a homer for the Auburn 20/30 Club Cubs, who survived after the Nations Rent Giants used a five-spot in the third inning to tie the game at 5-5.
Evan Kotey doubled, singled and scored a run for the winners, while Jake Carlisle singled twice and drove in a run for the Cubs. Derek Bovee and Dustin Burnes added a single and run each, and Chris Bednorski and Brett Miller also scored runs.
For the Giants, Mark Rhodes tripled, singled and scored a run, Ben Schallberger, Nick Topolinski, David Farrior and Kevin Mitchell each had a hit and scored a run, Buck Brogdon doubled and Alan Shanley singled.
Yankees 8, Cubs 3: A four-run rally in the bottom of the fifth all but clinched it for the Edgewood Veterinary Clinic Yankees, giving them an 8-2 lead.
Travis Wright pitched the first three innings for the win and had two singles and a pair of RBIs. Jordan Arndt added a double and RBI, Nathan Johnston, Jonathan Sorenson and Jared Schuster each singled once, Jacob Rice singled in a run, and Jeff Patton added another RBI.
The Cubs were led by Kotey’s single and two runs scored, and Dusty Burns’ single.
Pirates 7, Yankees 5: Chris Cox and Chad Redfern each had two hits and Randy Garrison, Andrew Tuller and Matt Dougherty one apiece for the Elks Lodge No. 1692 Pirates, who never trailed after taking a 4-1 lead in the first inning.
Patrick Williams and Johnston each hit and scored for the Yankees, while Wright supplied two hits and three runs scored.
Giants 4, Cubs 1: Brogdon pitched a four-hitter and doubled to lead the Giants. Shallberger was 1-for-1 with two runs scored, and Michael Gray had a hit and scored once.
For the Cubs, Kotey was 2-for-3 with a double and Adam Fry singled.
Pirates 7, Giants 4: Garrison had a triple and two singles and scored three times to lead the Pirates, who took 5-2 lead with a three-run fifth and held on for the win.
Cox added a pair of doubles and scored twice, and Austin Maynard and Dougherty also scored for the victors.
Michael Gray singled twice and scored twice for the Giants, while Brogdon had an RBI double and Kevin Morgan two singles and a run scored.
Angels 10, Indians 2: Lane Turner doubled and Harris doubled and singled to lead the Angels. Cody Van Riper and Danielewicz teams on a double play, and Matt Ross, Lopez and Van Riper had one hit apiece.
The Indians got a double from Matt Lundsford and one single apiece from Garrett Reid, Charlie Harrison and Buster Machado. |
