Zaputil, Harris turn in 15-strikeout gems

Spencer Zaputil racked up 15 strikeouts, which is all but three outs in the six-inning games he plays, as the Anchor Roofing White Sox downed the Elks Lodge No. 1691 Pirates 6-1 to highlight last week’s Auburn Little League Major Division baseball action for ages 11-12.

Tyler Lovejoy homered and singled for the White Sox, who dominated after the Pirates took a 1-0 lead in the first inning. Tim Bendana, Jordan Neumann and Wesley Kile each added a single for the winners.

Chris Cox had two singles and Randy Garrison one hit for the Pirates.

Placer Sierra Bank Angels 4, Yankees 0: Max Harris tossed a one-hitter with 15 strikeouts and also singled to lead the first-place Angels. Jesse Danielewicz added two singles and Jake Lopez and Matt Ross one hit apiece.

For the Yankees, Travis Wright pitched well and Wade Andrews had their only hit, a single.

Angels 12, Auburn 20/30 Club Cubs 0: Jon Slane doubled twice and Cody Van Riper added one two-bagger to lead the Angels’ bats. Christian Godsey, Mark Forester, Anthony Amara, Lane Turner, Ross and Lopez also had base hits.

For the Cubs, Chris Bednorski pitched three innings and he and Jake Carlisle had singles.

White Sox 16, Nations Rent Giants 10 (8 innings): Zaputil had a three-run triple and two base hits as the White Sox outscored the Giants 7-1 in the eighth inning after the teams were tied 9-9 after the regulation six frames. Kile pitched three innings, striking out six, and Lovejoy fanned eight in four innings on the mound.

Buck Brogdon and Ben Schallenberg each had three hits to lead the Giants, with Brogdon tripling home three runs. Nick Topolinski doubled and singled, and Michael Gray singled twice.

Edgewood Veterinary Clinic Yankees 4, Auburn Journal Indians 2: Jordan Arndt pitched four innings for the win and helped his cause with a single. Jeff Patton finished up on the mound, and Nate Johnston, Ryan Miller and Steven Smith added base hits.

Matt Lunsford pitched four innings and Jake Elia two for the Indians, while Andrew Green singled.

Tanko Well Drilling Braves 11, Giants 1: John Kok pitched five strong innings for the victory and helped his cause with a pair of singles. Kyle Mathson ripped two doubles and a single, Bobby Henning homered to key a four-run sixth inning, and Russell McClendon, Peter Benedict and Cody Romero also had singles.

David Farrior doubled and singled to lead the Giants, while Brogdon singled and second baseman Mark Rhodes was in on seven outs.

The Braves also picked up a forfeit win over the Pirates.

Cubs 12, Indians 1: Evan Kotey went 3-for-4 and Bovee doubled and singled to lead the Cubs’ 11-hit attack. Carlisle and Bednorski also had hits.

The Indians were led by Garrett Reid’s two singles and Charlie Harrison and Joey Misfud’s one hit apiece.
