Little League Baseball
Wright leads Auburn Elks over Kiwanis

Nolan Wright led Auburn Elks Lodge #1691 over the Auburn Kiwanis Club 14-9 last Monday with three singles, two runs and an RBI in Auburn Little League Majors action. Tim Bendana hit a triple and a double and scored three runs.

Bryce Starks had a triple with two runs and an RBI and Steven Schmidt had a double, two runs and two RBIs. Matt Dougherty had a double with a run and an RBI. Matt Steele had a single, two runs and an RBI. Nick Rohde had a single and a run. Griffin Quick scored a run and Garrett Burlingame had an RBI.

For the Kiwanis, Michael Reale had a double, two runs and an RBI and Joe Marich and David Daniel each hit a single and scored two runs. Michael Bray, Reilly Newman and Kyle Wells each scored a run and had an RBI and Bill Betts scored a run.

Auburn Elks Lodge #1691 2, Auburn Journal 1

The Elks needed seven innings to beat the Auburn Journal last Wednesday in a nail-biter. Bendana knocked in Dougherty for the Elks’ first run in the first inning. The next inning, Conner Hand singled and scored on Cody Barger’s single to tie it up. Then, in the seventh inning, Bendana hit a triple and scored on Schmidt’s hit.

For the Elks, Matt Ryan hit a double and Starks hit a single. Dougherty pitched two strong innings and Bendana pitched five shutout innings.

For the Journal, Steven Cox hit a double and Buster Machado and Tanner Yurdana each hit a single. Cox gave up only one run in three innings and Caleb Mitchell pitched three scoreless innings.

Placer Sierra Bank 6,Union Bank 2

Union Bank took an early lead with two runs in the first but Placer Sierra Bank recovered well with four runs in the third and two more in the fifth.

Eric Weaver had a double, single and one RBI and Ryan Lipsmeyer had a double and two RBIs. Pitcher Anthony Amara had nine strikeouts in three innings and Lipsmeyer had six strikeouts in three innings.

For Union Bank, Michael Caldwell had a triple and an RBI while Matt Stuck had a double and two RBIs. Josh Klem pitched four innings and had five strikeouts.

Placer Sierra Bank 2, Auburn 20/30 Club 1

With no score after one inning, 20/30 was first on the scoreboard in the second inning with a double from Derek Bovee that knocked in PJ Bandanza. Auburn 20/30 remained up 1-0 until the 4th inning when Placer Sierra answered with a double from Amara who later stole home for the tying run. In the 5th inning, Placer Sierra pulled ahead on a double hit by Colin Brown who was knocked in for the winning run with a single by Lipsmeyer.

Auburn Outdoor 3, Auburn 20/30 Club 2

Nick Linthicum of Auburn 20/30 pitched five innings, facing only 18 batters and giving up only two hits. Unfortunately for 20/30, both those hits were home runs by Michael Gray of Auburn Outdoor Sports.

Gray hit his first home run in the opening inning for a 1-0 lead. The next two innings went 1-2-3 for both sides, which showed some impressive defense, including a long fly ball caught by Kevin Harcus from 20/30 in right field.

In the fourth inning 20/30 pulled ahead on singles from Linthicum and Koal Swisley who were knocked in on a fly ball hit by Bovee and a single from Alex Hostetler. In the bottom of the inning Gray was up a second time and hit his second homer, tying the score 2-2. In the fifth, Auburn Outdoor scored the winning run for a final score.
