Little League
Journal beats 20/30 Club in extras

Last week the Auburn Journal and the 20/30 Club battled it out for eight innings in Auburn Little League Major baseball action with the Journal coming out with a 7-5 victory.

The Journal’s Steven Cox was on the mound for five innings and JT Taber pitched six innings for 20/30. Mitchell Johnson got the first hit of the game, which drove in the first run for the Journal in the top of the first.

Taber hit a single and was driven in by a single from Koal Swisley to tie it up 1-1 at the bottom of the first. Cox and Taber both struck out the side in the second inning. In the third, Taber hit a double, Swisley hit a single and both of them stole home to put 20/30 ahead by two runs.

In the fourth inning, 20/30’s Bryan Kale caught a fly ball in right field and threw to Derek Bovee at shortstop for a double play. In the fifth, the Journal’s Caleb Mitchell had two RBI’s and Alex Sibaja had one RBI.

In the bottom of the fifth inning, 20/30’s PJ Bandanza hit a double for an RBI and Zach Uvalle hit a single for an RBI tying the game at 5-5. After two extra innings, the Journal’s Connor Hand and Harley Sauers both scored on singles hit in the eighth for the final score.

Auburn Elks Lodge 6, Union Bank 5

The Elks scored four runs in the first inning and held on to edge Union Bank last Tuesday night, 6-5.

Tim Bendana hit a home run, a double, had three RBIs and scored two runs. Bryce Starks had a home run, a single, two RBIs and a run scored. Matt Dougherty, Griffin Quick and Matt Steele each hit a single and scored a run and Tim Schools hit a single. Bendana and Quick each pitched three innings and both struck out six batters.

For Union Bank, Josh Klem had two singles, two runs and an RBI. Kyle Pierce had a single and an RBI. Travis Tidd had a single and scored two runs and Michael Wiebelhaus scored a run. Klem gave up only two runs and struck out eight in five innings of pitching.

Auburn Elks Lodge 11, Auburn Outdoor Sports 2

Dougherty bashed two home runs, knocked in four runs and scored twice to lead the Elks over Auburn Outdoor Sports 11-2 on Saturday.

Bryce Starks hit a triple and a double, had three RBIs and scored a run. Tim Bendana singled and scored three runs. Matt Ryan scored twice, while Griffin Quick, Tim Schools and Matt Steele each scored once. Starks pitched four scoreless innings with six strikeouts.

For Auburn Outdoor Sports, Michael Gray hit two singles, scored a run and pitched four strong innings, striking out nine batters. Josh Turney also had two singles. Allen Shanley and Michael Brandt each singled and Mackenzie Classon scored a run.

Placer Sierra Bank 12, Auburn Kiwanis 2

Anthony Amara hit two home runs and had six RBIs to highlight Placer Sierra Bank’s rout of Auburn Kiwanis.

Ryan Lipsmeyer had a double and two singles and Eric Weaver had a double to highlight the rest of Placer’s offense. Lipsmeyer also went three innings on the mound and struck out seven, while Damon Bell had three strikeouts in two innings.

For Kiwanis, Kyle Mundt had a double and one RBI and Joe Marich had four strikeouts in three innings on the mound. Brian Butler had two strikeouts in two innings to finish the pitching for Kiwanis.

Edgewood Veterinary Clinic 10, Placer Sierra Bank 6

Jared Schuster had three singles and one RBI and Steven Swisley had a double and Andy Manuola had a single and an RBI for Edgewood.

Steven Smith pitched three innings and struck out four while Swisley pitched two innings and struck out one.

For Placer Sierra Bank, Amara had a double and Nigel Pell had a single and an RBI to lead in batting. Eric Weaver had four strikeouts in two innings and Colin Brown had three strikeouts in two innings.
