Little League Baseball
Auburn 9-10s take Area I All-Star title

By Journal Sports Staff

The Auburn Little League 9-and 10-year-old team took home the District 11 Area 1 All-Star tournament Sunday, defeating Rocklin 18-8 in Foresthill.

Auburn won the championship after battling out of the loser’s bracket and beating undefeated Rocklin twice in as many days. Joe Marich and Tyler Lipsmeyer combined for five innings on the mound and only allowed five hits and struck out six.

At the plate Michael Reale was 1-for-2 with an RBI and was solid throughout the Area 1 tournament behind the plate as the club’s catcher. Nigel Pell was 2-for-2 with an in-the-park home run and had the go-ahead RBI in the fifth inning that ended the game after five due to the 10-run rule.

Lipsmeyer was 2-for-3 with two RBIs and Tanner Anderson was 2-for-3 with an RBI.

Auburn will continue its run for the District 11 championship today as it plays Bear River at 5 p.m. in Foresthill.
