Auburn Bumps Out Bear River For TitleVince Vosti July 17, 2002 - Tim Bendana and winning pitcher Josh Klem each hit home runs to lead Auburn to an 8-3 win over Bear River Tuesday night in the championship game of District 11 Little League's 9- and 10-year-old All-Stars. Auburn, the 2001 champs, broke open a deadlocked game in the third inning when Klem hit a homer to center field that also scored Ryan Lipsmeyer. Bendana, who had homered in the second inning, hit a single later in the third to score Derek Bovee. Bendana advanced on the throw home, later scoring on a two-out double down the third base line by Matt Dougherty to put Auburn ahead, 8-2. Bear River, which won the Area 2 title without a loss, led off the fifth inning with walks by Anthony Ertola and Zac Welz. Both runners advanced on a fielder's choice that resulted in the second out of the inning. Bear River's Nathaniel King proceeded to beat out a grounder to short, scoring Ertola for Bear River's final run of the game. Bear River wasted no time in Tuesday's game, played at Jim Thompson Field in Foresthill. Morgan Juric whacked a solo homer in the top of the first inning for the first run of the game. King and Nolan Lewis combined for two hits and three stolen bases to score another run and give Bear River a 2-0 lead. Bear River's Jimmy Kastanes turned a nifty double play in the bottom of the first, snagging a liner from the mound before firing to Juric to catch a runner off first. The play closed out the inning with Bear River ahead 2-0, a lead that would hold until Bendana's homer in the third. The Union
